Sri Kalika Durga Parameshwari Temple Vidyaranyapura

Bike Ride to Vidyaranyapura Temple

My Royal Enfield Bullet 350 ES completed one month and its first service. The next day, Deepthi and I decided to go for a ride to Sri Kalika Durga Parameshwari temple in Vidyaranyapura, Bengaluru. Usually we take our four-wheeler for temples far away.

The Durga temple in Vidyaranyapura is about 20 kms from my residence in Bengaluru. This was my second visit to the temple. My first visit was about three years ago when I was not doing well professionally.

The Powerful Kalika Durga Parameshwari Temple

The belief is that when the devotee prays in this temple, the goddess fulfil their wishes. I prayed here and now I thoroughly believe in it.

Our ride was longer than expected. Thanks to the road blockade near the railway crossing. We had to take alternate route, which was an extra ride.

When we reached the temple, it was almost dark, that enhanced the temple ambience with so many beautifully lit lamps.

Several cars and bikes parked near the temple indicated large crowd inside the temple. Probably the day was auspicious for praying to the deity.

As I guessed, many devotees had lined up to have a glimpse of the goddess Kalika Durga Parameshwari. I also observed devotees singing songs in praise of the goddess.

God is everywhere

God is everywhere but the temples have a special power. In fact, all religious places have a special power and that is why devotees of any faith who pray at home or anywhere for that matter also visit their favourite religious places.

The Kalika Durga Parameshwari temple in Vidyaranyapura is a very old temple. The architecture of the temple and its size is the proof to it. I thoroughly believe that this temple has some powers and I have experienced it.

Offering oil is a customary. A cup of oil is available for Rs. 10 in the temple premises. With the oil, a piece of yellow paper with the temple name printed in it is given. The devotees is supposed to write their petition on it to the goddess. The request can be anything from health, wealth and a good life.

The temple complex’s main deity is goddess Durga. However, there are many deities as well. According to Hindu mythology, the devotees should worship Lord Ganesh before worshipping the main deity of the temple.

Sri Ekambareshwar and Lord Venkateshwar are on either side of the main deity. There are separate temples dedicated to Lord Anjeneya, the Navagrahas and the most feared god Lord Saneshwar. However, the list is not complete here.

Devotees visiting this temple should follow the dress codes. Formals or ethnics is ok. The female devotees should avoid wearing skirts and denims (jeans pant). I saw a girl shown doors because she was wearing jeans pant.

The temple authorities do not allow photography using any device nor answering phone calls. Better, switch off the phones.

The only photograph I captured near the temple premises was of the flowers with permission from the flower vendor.
